Back to Prince's Introduction

Week 23

Rain, rain and more rain is interrupting Prince's education somewhat, though we had a nice session under saddle this week. The biggest news is that the farrier was pleased and surprised at how Prince's hooves have responded to the support of the shoes. The broken areas have filled in nicely with just one shoeing and he's traveling very well.

Prince's feet don't grow very fast, but I found out I'll have no problem telling when he's due to be reshod. He was checked one and two weeks ago and deemed not ready to reshoe, but the day before the shoer was due this week I noticed a marked change in the way he was traveling. He had started landing on the outside and rolling in again, and Jason confirmed that he is growing faster on the outside than the inside, creating the imbalance. After he was shod, he was landing flat again.

For those of you who have been reading this weblog and keeping up with Prince's progress, I'll just let you know that posting may become a bit sporadic over the next weeks. Along with the holidays comes a barn move, so a bit of unsettling and then settling back in time comes along with this always-busy season.

Don't worry, I'll keep you informed of any big news or major accomplishments!
